Overview

Doha has transformed itself into one of the Gulf's most polished cities, yet it still feels calmer and more compact than many of its neighbours. Many travellers first meet Doha on a stopover at Hamad International Airport, but it deserves a few days of its own, especially in the cooler months.

Best Time to Visit

• November to March: The most pleasant period, with warm days and cooler evenings ideal for walking the Corniche, desert trips and outdoor dining. This is peak season for events and hotel demand.
• April and October: Shoulder months, increasingly hot but still manageable early and late in the day.
• May to September: Very hot and often humid. Life moves indoors to air-conditioned malls, museums and hotels, and rates are frequently lower.

Hamad International Airport (DOH) is a major global hub with connections across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The Doha Metro's Red Line links the airport with the city centre.

The Doha Metro is modern, clean and covers key areas including Souq Waqif, Msheireb, Katara and Lusail, with a tram network in parts of the city. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely available. Walking is pleasant in the cooler months, especially along the Corniche, but distances can be large.
